Abstract/Description: A FIELD EXPERIMENT WAS CONDUCTED AT DEHRADUN FOR TWO YEARS REVEALED THAT MULCH INCREASED THE POTATO YIELD BY 26% OVER NO MULCH UNDER RAINFED CONDITION. THIS MIGHT BE DUE TO THE FACT THAT THE MULCH REDUCED THE EVAPORATION LOSSES RESULTING IN CONSERVATION OF MOISTURE WITH CONSEQUENT INCREASE IN THE TUBER YIELD. IRRIGATION APPLIED AT 40 mm CPE PRODUCED SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER YIELD THAN 60 mm CPE DURING BOTH THE YEARS WITHOUT MULCH. UNDER THE MULCHED CONDITION , THERE WAS NO SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCE IN THE YIELD BETWEEN IRRIGATION APPLIED AT 40 and 60 mm CPE AND BOTH THESE TREATMENTS PRODUCED SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER YIELDS THAN CONTROL.
