Abstract/Description: A STUDY UNDERTAKEN TO INVESTIGATE AS TO HOW MANY COPPICE SHOOTS ( 1,2 OR 3) OF EUCALYPTUS SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO GROW IN ORDER TO GET THE MAXIMUM RETURNS REVEALED THAT THE g.b.h DUE TO ONE , TWO AND THREE SHOOTS WAS SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT FROM EACH OTHER. SURVIVAL PERCENT OF THE PLANTS ( VARYING FROM 88 TO 91) WAS AT PAR IN EACH OF THE TREATMENTS. TAKING INTO ACCOUNT , THE SURVIVAL PERCENT AND THE g.b.h PERFORMANCE, THE GREEN WEIGHT OF EUCALYPTUS WAS ESTIMATED AT 75.4 , 75.0 AND 53.2 TONNES/HA WITH ONE , TWO AND THREE SHOOTS. ECONOMIC ANALYSIS OF DATA ( AT 1992 PRICE LEVEL) DEMONSTRATED THAT NET PRESENT VALUE ( NPV) OF RS 9666 WAS OBTAINED BY RETAINING ONE SHOOT , CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY TWO SHOOTS ( RS 9571). IN BOTH CASES, THE B:C WAS 2.
