| Abstract/Description: | NUTRIENT VALUES AND PALATABILITY RATINGS IN RESPECT OF 19 SHRUBS AND TREE SPECIES OF THE OUTER HIMALAYAS HAVE BEEN DETERMINED . THE LEAVES OF MOST OF THE SPECIES ARE MORE OR LESS EATEN BY THE LIVESTOCK FROM THE VIEW POINT OF PALATABILITY , NUTRITIONAL STATUS AND EASY AVAILABILITY. GREWIA OPPOSITIFOLIA , BOEHMERIA RUGULOSA , QUERCUS INCANA, STERCULIA PALLENS AND BAUHINIA RETUSA ARE THE BEST TOP- FEED FOR THE CATTLE AND CONSTITUTE AN IMPORTANT SOURCE OF LEAF FODDER. THE NEED FOR PROPER MANAGEMENT OF THE TOP- FEED SPECIES HAS BEEN EMPHASISED. |
