dc.description.abstract | No PRESENTS RESULTS OF A SEVEN YEARS STUDY CONDUCTED AT OOTACAMUND IN THE NILGIRI HILLS . IT HAS BEEN INDICATED THAT TH RUNOFF AND SOIL LOSS WERE LEAST ( 0.101% 32 kg/ha ) UNDER EXCELLENT CANOPY COVER FOLLOWED BY FAIR ( 0.154% , 83 kg/ha ) AND POOR CANOPY (1.093% , 711 kg/ha) . IN THE NEWLY ESTABLISHED TEA PLANTATIONS WITH THE USUAL SOIL CONSERVATION MEASURES THE RUNOFF AND SOIL LOSS WERE COMPARATIVELY MUCH LESS I.E 1.171 % , 5KG/HA IN MULCH AND 0.41 % , 159KG/HA IN DRAINS , THAN SIMILAR PLANTATIONS WHERE NO SOIL CONSERVATION MEASURES WERE ADOPTED ( 15.786% , 16,357KG/HA). THE CROP PRODUCTIVITY STUDIES ALSO INDICATED THE INCREASE IN YIELD ADOPTED UNDER SOIL CONSERVATION MEASURE ( 1271 KG 1567 KG AND 1358 UNDER MULCH AND DRAINS , MULCH ONLY AND DRAINS ONLY , RESPECTIVELY OVER CONTROL). | en_US |
