dc.description.abstract | An empirical study was carried out to examine relative efficiencies of 3 selection strategies, viz. selection index, phenotypic index and transformed culling for genetic improvement based on several characters simultaneously. The empirical comparison was necessitated because the explicit theoretical expression for the relative efficiencies were not available. The superiority of one method over the other, both for genetic gains, as well as for total economic returns was shown to depend upon heritability, genetic and phenotypic correlation and economic value. | en_US |
