dc.description.abstract | one of the important components of bringing improvement in metric trait in both plant and animal breeding is selection of individuals to be used as parents . in particular , when genes act additive , it is the appropriate method for changing the genetic constitution of a population. selection here means breeding from the best individuals whatever best may be.the ways in which the theory of quantitative genetics can help in this are first by showing how to choose individuals on the basis of their own phenotype values. however , when the heritability of the character is very low , selection based on individuals may exploit the information from relatives is of great significance not only for its efficiency for the genetic improvement in the character s of low heritibility but also from the point of economic gain , wherein even a small improvement of the response will repay the extra effort of applying the best technique. | en_US |
