Abstract/Description: | Drought stress is one of the most important environmental stresses which limit crop growth and production in different places of the world. In this regard, in order to evaluate effects of drought stress, induced by polyethylene glycol, on seedling growth of Vigna aconitifolia an experiment was conducted in Swami Keshwanand Rajasthan Agriculture University. The screen is used to test tolerance to drought at the seedling stage. The hydroponics screening test is simple, rapid and efficient that allows screening of several hundred seedlings. Osmotic compound such as polyethylene glycol reduces plant growth by imposing controlled drought. Seedlings of Vigna aconitifolia were grown hydroponically in modified Hoagland solution containing 0, 10, 20 and 30% PEG-6000. 20% PEG was found suitable for screening of Vigna aconitifolia seedlings. Indicators of tolerance are leaf colour, leaf rolling, leaf tip dying and seedling death. Root damage (growth and browning) and biomass has observed. |
