Abstract/Description: | Desized, scoured and bleached jute and cotton fabric were treated with natural amino acids obtained from soyabean seed extract to study the effect of dyeing process variables and their colour interaction parameters including colour strength. Properties of jute fabric is as follows: warp 215 tex, weft 285 tex, EPI-14, PPI-10, GSM 202 and thickness 0.86 mm. For Cotton fabric: warp 35 tex, weft 17 tex, EPI-90, PPI-71, GSM 106.71 and thickness 0.16 mm. Effect of single and double mordanting treated with different percentage of soyabean extract were studied for both the fabrics for optimization of the process. The results indicate that 75:25 ratio of Harda and aluminium sulphate at overall 15 % application level offers maximum K/S value for both modified jute and cotton fabric with soyabean extract. Dyeing operation was carried out by using a natural dye, e.g. Babool at different pH level viz; pH 4, 5, 6, 8, 10 and 12, where the best performance was obtained at pH 12 dyeing temperature of 65oC, time 60 min, MLR 1:20, salt 5 gpl and dye concentration of 30%. Dyeing results were analysed using colour difference index (CDI), a newer colour interaction parameter and from dispersion of CDI values in each case, the dyeing sensitivity is analyzed in the present study. Treatment with soyabean extract shows better strength, elongation, receptive and enhanced dyeing for both cotton and jute fabric. |
