| Abstract/Description: | Theaverageannualrainfallof631mmintheKavalursub-watershedasrecordedfromtheAlavandistationdatabyKSNDMC. 60%,21%and19%oftheannualrainfalloccursduringkharif,rabiandsummerseasonsrespectivelyandexhibitedahighertemporalvariability. Theevapotranspirationestimationtooldevelopedindicatesthatthewatershedwaterbalanceisindeficit.Thecropping&irrigationchoicesareinappropriateandneededtobealtered. Theestimatedrunoffavailabletouseis4mmforanaverageannualrainfallof584mm(2009-2017).Theutilizablegroundwateris31mm(70%of44mmrechargeestimated).Thismeansthetotalavailablewaterresourcecombiningthesoilmoisturestoreforkharif&rabi(224mm)andutilizablerunoffplusrechargeis259(=224+31+4) Theaverageactualevapotranspirationestimatedinthewatershedbasedonthecurrentlanduseandirrigationpracticesforthekharifandrabiseasonsis502mm.Hencetheamountofwateruseforkharifandrabiseasonsmaybeestimatedas627mm(i.e125%ofAET).Thisdemandforthetwoseasonsishigherby368mm,i.e.(627-259).TheAETinJune-Septmonthsismorethanrainfall.Hence,thereisalessopportunitytoharvesttheexcesswaterthroughwatershedmanagementpracticesforutilizingduringrabiseason. ThetotalnumberofwellspresentinKavalurSub-watershedasperLRIdataare191(190-Borewells&1-Openwell).ThegroundwaterlevelwasfoundfromthedataobtainedfromKSNDMCfortheneareststationHireshindhogi.Deepestlevelwasfoundin2009year. |
