Abstract/Description: | Variations in the milk composition and the correlations between the milk constituents were investigated in a total number of 77 samples from Hill goats and 40 samples from Pashmina goats. The milk constituents, viz. fat (MF), soild not fat (SWF), total protein (TP), lactose plus salts (SMF-TP), tota/solids (TS) and density were 4.72+ 0.27. 70.89+ 0.28, 3.86+ 0.7 7, 7.02+ 0. 17, 75.604-0.36 and 7.037+ 0.0007 in Hi/goats and 4. 14--0.32, 7048--0.20, 3. 74-0. 08, 6. 74--0. 73, 14.67 0.38 and 1.036+ 0.0008 in Pashmina goats respectively, and the difference in composition between the breeds was non-significant (P> 0.05). The MF had significant negative correlation with TP and density, which on the contrary had positive relationship with SWF. But both MF and SWF had positive correlation with TS. The density was negatively correlated with MF, but positive with SWF. Tº and SMF-7P. The relationship amongst different milk constituents was similar between the Hill and the Pashmina goats. |
