Abstract/Description: Forty F1s hybrids (4 line x 10 tester) of French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) were evaluated to study the gca, sca variances and their estimates, correlation coefficient of gca with parents and their hybrids. Correlation coefficient of sca with cross and heterosis, performance of selected parents and their crosses with respect to per se, heterosis and combining ability effects. Among the lines VC-1 was found good general combiner for green pod yield. among the testers Pusa Parvati was found good general combiner for most horticultural characters. Cross VC-1 x HUR-321 expressed highest positive characters over better parent for green pod yield. the main yield contributing traits in French bean are number of pod/plant, pod thickness and total green pod yield/plant. Green pod yield/plant was influenced by additive genetic component only where as protein content in green pod was goverened by both additive and non-additive component equally.
