Abstract/Description: The book describes various important facets of Sirohi goat farming with updated information achieved from research under the Sirohi goat unit of All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Goat Improvement at Avikanagar. Every chapter of the book was designed with the objective of easy implementation by the farmers with little expert help. The publication is comprised of 17 major chapters detailing different aspects of Sirohi goat farming. It started with counting the importance of goat rearing for livelihood of goat farmers. The way to know the major features of Sirohi goat in terms of its morphological characteristics, native tracts and performance potential (growth, milk, reproduction etc.) have been discussed. The housing, breeding, care of new born kids, feeding regime as well as supplementary feeding for different groups of animals at different stages have been given in the book. The most important aspect of health management in terms of treatment, vaccination and control of disease occurrences in Sirohi goats have been highlighted. The need of special care during different seasons of the year, also the neglected aspect of grazing land and its conservation have been given emphasis. The book also provides an outline of different aspects of commercial goat rearing, both in large and small scale. A pictorial depiction of the important daily activities need to be undertaken for scientific goat rearing has been added in the book to provide the farmers with a visual understanding of systematically implementing the same in their flocks. The book ends with details of record keeping at the farm by documenting the important activities, performances etc. in particular formats.
