Abstract/Description: For correct interpretation of the conclusions reached about the main effects, it is essential to have the assumption of additivity of the effects. The absence of additivity, in case of a two-way classification (pxq) will bring interaction between row and column into picture, making it difficult to attribute an observed significant difference between two row effects (or column effects), to the difference in effectiveness of the two row effects (or column effects), to the difference in effectiveness of the two factors associated with these row (or columns). Besides, in estimation problem, we cannot have any idea about the variance of the estimate because of unavailability of any unbiased estimate for the error variance gama 2. Moreover, in case of non-additivity, our usual F-test for testing the equality of tow(or column) effects will have less power than in case of additivity. This makes it necessary to investigate about the additivity, a test for which was suggested by Tukey.
