Abstract/Description: | The present investigation was undertaken with the objectives to develop molecular identity for parental lines of five rice hybrids using EST-SSR marker allele(s), and to validate the utility of identified molecular ID'S of rice hybrids in detecting genetic impurities of certified rice hybrid seed lots. A set of 32 EST-SSR markers were analyzed, out of which 18 markers were found polymorphic. A set of 9 EST-SSR markers (RMES6–1, RMES2–2, RMES9–2, RMES4–2, RMES51, RMES12-2, RMES6–1, RMES10-1, ESSR68.95 and RMES7–2) was found to exhibit unique and informative allelic combinations for parental lines of five hybrids (KRH-2, PSD-1, DRRH-2, CORH-3 and DRRH-3). The genetic purity of seed lots ranged from 51 to 83 per cent. This clearly established the practical utility of EST-SSRs markers in the assessment of genetic purity. |
