Mango (Mangifera indica L.) belongs to the family Anacardiaceae and genus Mangifera. The genus has 62 species, out of which only a few have edible fruits. In lndia only three species are found i.e. Mangifera indica, M. sylvalica and M. colonetlra. The species Mangifera indica bears edible fruits. Mango is probably originated in South-East Asia at an early date.
