Description |
Himachal Pradesh, a hilly state situated in the North Western Himalayan region, reveals a wide variety of plant forms of the European, Tibetan, Malaysian, Mongolian and Siberian origin in its subtropical, temperate alpine and cold desert climatic regions (Chauhan and Thakur, 1995). This state has been highly regarded as cornucopia of plant genetic resources especially for the medicinal and aromatic plants since ancient times (Chauhan, 1995). Out of 3500 known plant species there are about 500 medicinal, 150 aromatic and quite a good number of potent alternative and substitute drugs of plant origin that are being harnessed at present.
