Description |
In Himachal Pradesh, European pears (Pyrus communis L.) are cultivated at an elevation of 5000 feet above mean sea level whereas, Oriental pears (Pyrus pyrifolia Nakai) are cultivated below 5000 feet elevation above mean sea level. The cultivation of Oriental pear has been further extended to the Plains of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh where the properly maintained orchards of Patharnakh yield more than 30 tonnes ha-1 (Dhatt and Orewal, 1989).
