Gerbera (Gerbera jamesonii Hook), an important flower with exquisite, shape, size and colour, has more than 40 species of Asiatic and African origin. It is valued as a cut flower because of its long keeping quality and hence fetches a good market price. It is a dwarf herbaceous perennial plant belonging to family Asteraceae and occupies fifth position among the top ten cut flower with a sale value of 121.20 million Euros (Prasad, 2007).
