Description |
Okra or Bhindi (Abelmoschus esculentus Hoench. ) is one of the most important vegetables grown extensively in India almost throughout the year and is used in green stage as vegetable. In Himachal Pradesh, it is grown in an area of 325 hectares with the total production of 3575 tonnes (Anonymous, 1988). Bhindi crop is ravaged by many insectpests throughout its growth stages. The important insectpests which attack this crop are jassid (Amrasca biguttula biguttula Ishida), aphid (Aphis gossypii Gl.) and the fruit borer (Erias vitella Fab.). When jassid and aphid infestations are severe, particularly at the seedling stage, it causes more reduction in yield (Krishnaiah, 1980).
