Description |
A member of the family fabaoeae, garden pea (Pisum sativum L.) is grown throughout the world. It is believed to be native of Europe and West Asia, while its wild prototypes cane from Ethiopia (deCandolle, 1886). Pea enjoys a unique place in the history of genetics as the plant that served John Gregor Mendel with distinction during the course of his celebrated experiments. Since then the genetic knowledge has accumulated to the extent that now pea is among the genetically best explored plants.
