Description |
The metabolic detoxification of insecticides is the most important mechanism in the development of resistance in insect species to insecticides. As many as 428 insect and acarines have already developed resistance to one or more insecticides (Georghiou and Mellon, 1983). This number is likely to go up and by the end of this century most of insect pests of agricultural, horticultural and forest importance would be resistant to the existing classes of pesticides. This will force the farmers to use pesticides at higher concentrations which will result in the environmental upsets, and large scale pollution of the biosphere.
