The total cultivated area in Himachal pradesh is 605.7 thousand hectares and maize crop is produced on about half of this area (270,69 thousand hectare) to produce 428.33 thousand tonnes of grains In kharif season (ASO 1979). This brings the average yield of maize per hectare to 1582 kg, which is second among all the states at national level.
