Description |
Apple scab caused by Venturia inaequalis (Cke.) Wint., is now prevalent in all the apple growing regions of India. It is serious in those areas which receive good rainfall in spring and early summer months. During the last 15 years, this disease has received a wide attention whereby various aspects related to it and to the fungus have been critically examined and understood, thereby bringing a better understanding of the factors responsible for its outbreak (Gupta,1985,1988,198 8a,1990). However, to manage this disease effectively and economically, aspects of weather on perennation of scab fungus in saprophytic phase for providing primary inoculum and of ascospore emission period with regard to early season sprays have not been critically examined.
