Description |
Himachal Pradesh, called as the apple state of India, is famous for its quality apples. Although apples are grown throughout the temparate region of the state, yet Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh is renowed for quality apples and this is, undoubtedly due to the unique agro-climatic conditions of this high altitude extremely cold region. It is situated at en elevation from 1524 to 3048 m amsl as a dry temperate region of the Western Himalayas. Out of 6401 sq kms area of the district, apples are grown in 2301 ha of land with an annual production of 8000 metric tonnes of apples (Anonymous, 1983).
