Cereals grains are the seeds of domesticated grasses and members of the monocotyledons family Graminae. These are the main staple food in the diets of majority of population of Asia and Africa, providing about 70-80% of energy in the diets of poor population. Among cereals maize (Zea mays) also known as corn occupies an important place next to wheat in agricultural production in India. It is also referred to as "Queen of Cereals" as it has got the highest potential among the cereal crops. Maize is one of the important Kharif crops, it is grown almost throughout India as a food for human and feed for animals (Singh and Sirinivas et al., 1996).
