Description |
Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is one of the most important legume crop grown through out the world, used both as a pulse and green vegetable. World over area of common bean cultivation is about 26, 160 thousand hectares with an annual production of 30, 000 metric tonnes (Anonymous, 1999). Beans provide an excellent source of proteins, vitamins and minerals particularly calcium, phosphorus, iron and zinc for human diet thus are highly nutritious (Broughton et al., 2003).
