Description |
Eugene Linder, the author of 'Lost Tribes, Lost knowledge' says: 'Over the ages, the indigenous peoples have developed innumerable technologies and arts. They have devised ways to farm deserts without irrigation and produce abundance from the forest without destroying the delicate balance that maintains the eco-system; they have learnt how to navigate vast distances ... using the knowledge of the currents and the feel of the waves. . . ; they have explored the medicinal properties of plants; and they have acquired an understanding of the basic ecology of flore and fauna'. How right he is. These communities whom we call 'tribes', are as much the sons of this land as any other segment of the Indian society is. So if one tribe goes much will go from our life too. For the loss of a tribe is not loss of some 'wild people'. It is a loss of enormous treasure trove of wisdom and of our cultural heritage.
