Description In November, 1978, Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya was inaugurated by the then President of India Sh. Neelam Sanjeeva Reddy and all the activities of Agriculture Complex under Himachal. Pradesh University were transferred to this Vishvavidyalaya. The Vishvavidyalaya had the strength of two Colleges of Agriculture, one located at Palampur and the other at Solan, besides having Regional Research Stations located at Mashobra, Bajaura, Dhaulakuan and Sharbo in addition to many Sub-stations. A new Regional Research Station started functioning at Kukumseri in Lahaul valley afterwards. Eventually the Vishvavidyalaya had two faculties, one of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, and second of Horticulture and Forestry with major departments located at either campus. In 1971 postgraduate programme in the disciplines of Agronomy, Plant Breeding & Genetics and Soil Science was started in College of Agriculture, Palampur. However, post-graduate programme in Horticulture, Vegetable Crops, Plant Pathology, Entomology & Apiculture and Forestry became part of the Solan campus. The post-graduate programme in the field of Animal Science, Agricultural Economics and Food Science and Nutrition were started in the College of Agriculture in 1976, 1979 and 1982, respectively.
