Description Himachal Pradesh is a rich state in terms of its natural resources. With rich diversity, the state holds great future on the path to emerging as one ofthe prosperous states of the country. The diversity in terms of climate, altitude and soil provide potential for the development of varied agro-systems. In the Hindu Kush Himalayan range, agro-forestry systems are accepted as one of the good practices for the development of people living in the mountains.

The cultivation of tea particularly in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh needs special attention. Kangra tea is well known for its distinctiveness. In the past, India has been largest producer and exporter of tea. Tea drinking certainly became established in China many centuries before it had even been heard of in the West. Lu Yu wrote the first definitive book on tea, the Ch'a Ching or Tea Classic in 800 AD. However, tea is often thought of as being a quintessentially British drink for over 350 years. The cultivation and treatment of tea could not flourish in Himachal Pradesh due to various reasons.
