Description |
Kipling's story on 'The Janeites' has made Jane Austen, the person, an object of veneration. The purpose of this volume is to examine the impact of Jane Austen the woman on Jane Austen the novelist. A deep study of her letters and life-records has been made to throw light on her ideal about family life and relationships and to show facets of her personality which are reflected in the novels. Jane Austen has not been studied in the pattern embodied in these essays, though five books (one by the present writer) and quite a few articles have appeared in India alone.
