Subject 954 South Asia India

Description In the north-western part of India, in the bosom of Western Himalayas between north latitude 32°11' 30" and 33°13' 6" and east longitude 75°45" and 77°3' 30" lies Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh. In its north, a region trapped between the Mid-Himalaya and the Zanskar Range, comprises the valley of Chenab or Chandrabhaga through nearly eighty miles of its course from the Thirote Nala to Ganaur Nala. It is Pangi, divided into two parts, Pangi and Chamba Lahul nearly of equal size, by a lofty spur from the Zanskar Range called Gurdhar, running in a south-westerly direction between the Saichu and Miyar Nalas and ending opposite Tindi. Its north-western portion from Rouli to Ganaur Nala is Pangi: and the south eastern from Rauli to Thirotc, the Chamba Lahul. Pangi, the remote mountain-locked valley conjures visions of its austere and rugged charms where life still continues un-hurriedly and placidly as it has since hundred of years. Here even the most prosaic of mind is moved by the nature's grand spectacle and its ethereal poetry.
