Description |
The emergence of greater Himachal Pradesh in November 1966 by including Kangra and Una Districts of Punjab in it, was a landmark event for the fulfillment of the aspiration of people of hill areas. It was possible due to the continued efforts of Or Y S Parmar the then Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh. On 25th January 1971, Prime Minister Smt Indira Gandhi announced at the Shimla Ridge the grant of the status of a full~fledged state to Himachal Pradesh. It provided an impetus to the developmental process in diversified areas and the State witnessed a major breakthrough in the development of economy, education, health-care and other neglected areas.
