Description |
Certain landscapes imprint themselves upon the mind's eye and for me the most persistent picture throughout the years has been that of the Upper Beas valley of Kulu in the Western Himalaya, with the great snow ridge above the Solang nala and the twin Gyephang peaks at its far end. Ever since 1 left India in 1935, the vision of this valley has repeatedly come before me during the day as well as during the night and on downland rides at home in Berkshire I have sometimes half closed my eyes and there it is again, replacing the distant view of White Horse Hill.
