Description |
Today, approximately half of the world's area (46.3%) of lentil is in South Asia, where indigenous lentils are of a specific ecotype (pilosae) and exhibit a marked lack of variability. This lack of variability has limited breeding progress. This chapter describes the genetic bottleneck in lentil in South Asia and the introduction of new genetic diversity into the region. Future prospects are also briefly discussed.
