Bacterial diseases of pigs are important as they cause considerable economic loss due to high morbidity and mortality of the animals. A number of bacterial diseases have been reported by various workers from different parts of the country. Besides the common bacterial diseases, there are incidence of brucellosis, swine erysipelas, greasy pig disease, Streptococcus suis infection and methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus infection in pigs. Identification of different serotypes and virulence genes of some of the bacterial pathogens has also been made. An overall picture of bacterial diseases of pigs in India is given in this short review. Not Available |
