Total 167 genotypes/ local land races of pointed gourd were collected from different eco-geographic regions (upland and diara areas) of Eastern U.P. and evaluated at ICAR-IIVR, Varanasi (U.P.) during 1996-97in augmented block design. The range values reflected the presence of variation in the material studied. The first principle component had highest eigen roots and also showed highest proportion of total variation (47.92%) followed by second component with the variation of 22.52%. one hundred and sixty accessions of pointed gourd germplasm were grouped into 8 non overlapping cluster. Cluster 4 was highest comprising 37 accessions and cluster 6 was smallest with nine accessions. Among other cluster, thirteen accessions were grouped in cluster 2, 10 in cluster3, sixteen in cluster 5, thirtyin cluster 7 and twenty two in cluster 8. Thus, the results indicated that there is ample scope of varietal improvement through hybridization and selection in the view of considerable genetic diversity present in the accessions.
