The package of practices (PoP) recommendation presently we are following is neither soil or plant test based. It is a blanket one derived based on fertilizer trials. Taking into account the soil nutrient status, a fertilizer cum manurial recommendation including that of secondary nutrient Mg and micronutrients Zn and B were evolved. This helped in avoiding the use of P and use of lesser amounts of nutrients than the blanket recommendation. This has definitely resulted in improving the soil health to a great extent.
