In order to assess the soil and drinking water salinisation due to shrimp farming, if any survey was conducted in coastal areas of Cuddalore district of Tamilnadu during October 1999 to march 2000. In kandakkadu village, ec for soil ranged from 0.01 to 1.6 dsm-1 and the bore well contained chlorides and total dissolved solids (TDS) in the range of 168 to 322 mg-1 AND 301 TO 522 mg-1 respectively. In parangipettai village ec for soil ranged from 0.12 to 0.94ds m-1 and the bore well water contained chlorides and TDS in the range of 412 to 630 mg-1 and 1300 to 1645 mg-1 respectively.
