Abstract/Description: | The system based studies with special reference to identification of alternative cropping systems, integrated nutrient management, tillage and crop establishments and other management practices in the form of packages were developed/refined. The experiences of these studies during the last two decades have clearly shown that the target of food grains is achievable with the use of system based improved management practices. Information was generated for 69 NARP zones out of 132 representing all 15 Agro-climatic zones of the country but their documentation has been scanty. Therefore, an attempt has been made to compile and synthesize all available information with special reference to production potential and yield gaps, efficient alternative cropping systems, their package of practices and contingency planning by involving all concerned for the benefit of researchers, planners, development agencies, and farmers. |
