Abstract/Description: | The genetic diversity of a medium carp, Osteobrama belangeri was revealed to be without any variation in Manipur state of India based on partial 307 bp cyt b gene. The species is listed in IUCN Red List as a Near Threatened species. It is endemic to Manipur state of India, whereas in Myanmar a sizeable sub-population is present. The nucleotide sequences of O. belangari individuals studied are A+T rich (61.9%) without any Transition or Transversion. Therefore, all the individuals of four populations studied were represented by one haplotype. The phylogeographic and AMOVA analyses did not show any type of variations among populations. Therefore, the study based on mtDNA cytochrome b suggested the existence of a single population of O. belangeri in Manipur. |
