Abstract/Description: | Today global warming has now emerged asburning issue, threatening the continuation of life onearth. Changing climate is of vital importance becauseof major impacts by effecting water resources andagricultural economy. Climate change stresses willhave complex pressure on fisheries resources andthreatened the fish production in North-east India. Asign of increasing annual mean maximum and mini-mum temperature was observed by 3.7oC and 0.7oCbetween 1980 and 2010 in and around Guwahati. Pos-sible changes in the hydro-climatic regime of the rivervalleys of the region is likely to cause higher silt-ation, erosion, flash flood in wetlands, lakes and res-ervoirs thereby affecting fisheries. Water temperaturechange may alter fish metabolism and physiologythereby affecting fish growth fecundity, feeding be-havior, distribution, migration and abundance. |
