Abstract/Description: | A training programme on ‘Conjunctive Use of Canal and Groundwater including Use of Brackish Water’ would be organized at Central Soil salinity Research Institute, Karnal -132001 from 18-23 February 2008. The lectures to be delivered during the training are compiled and brought out in the form of a book titled ‘Conjunctive Use of Canal and Groundwater’. Different lectures incorporated in this book emphasize on conservation of natural resources, characterization and judicious use of groundwater including saline/sodic water, drainage effluents and wastewater for supplementing the canal water to meet the crop irrigation requirements for achieving higher crop productivity. It also covers topic related to appropriate agronomic practices, modern methods of irrigation, groundwater recharge and use of remote sensing and Geographic Information System for the better management of these valuable resources. This publication has come to the reality because of efforts made by the CSSRI, an institute under the umbrella of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi and Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, New Delhi. The editors of this book wish to place on record their heartiest thanks to the Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, New Delhi for providing the financial support for compilation and publication of this book. We are also indebted to The Director CSRRI, Karnal who was the source of inspiration, guidance and encouragement. The editors have special words of appreciation for all the contributors who supplied the lecture notes well in time and agreed to share their valuable experiences and thoughts with the trainees. In the last but not the least we are thankful to one and all who are helping directly or indirectly in organization of this training programme and publication of this book. |
