Abstract/Description: | In the last one decade, the use of Gegraphic Information System (GIS) software hasbeen incresing in many scientific areas. Farm management, Pest/Disease tracking, Crop monitoring, Yield prediction, soil analysis, Environmental science, Ecology, Forestry, Biodiversityconservation, Mining, Petroleum, geographyetc., are specific disciplines where GIS found fundamental applications. This paper discusses the role of gis as an effective Information Communication TEchonlogy (ICT) tool for decision making in Animal Housbandary and Dairy sectors. Attempts made at National Academy ofAgricultural Research Management(NAARM), Hyderabad to address the issues of supply chain management in a commercial Dairy, Crop-livestock interactins for sustainable dairy development at block (Mandal) level in a district, assessment of retail market potential for chicken meat have been described. It was found that the desisions made with the help of GIS management facilitied quality decision makeing and proved solutions to complex issues. Integration and interaction of different components of the farming systems generated novel ideas and evolved suitable soultions for sustainable Animal Housbandary and dairy development. The information gaps between and amongresearchers, academicians and policy makers can be reduced by an effective use of GIS technology |
