Abstract/Description: | The year 2012-13 posed major challenges in the form of unprecedented drought in 4 states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan. The earlier work of CRIDA and its AICRPDA centres, and the recently formulated district level contingency plans have helped in reducing the impact of this drought on kharif crop production. The year reminded us the critical importance of in situ and ex situ rainwater harvesting technologies to overcome droughts. |
