Abstract/Description: | Food security is one of the major concerns in many countries. Preservation and storage of food grains, mainly for future consumption for the non-producers is greatly important and inevitable. Stored products/commodities are prone to many biotic and abiotic factors. Among biotic factors, insects are considered as the major threat causing nearly 10% of total storage. Though, there are several species of insects that infest and spoil stored commodities, but nearly hundreds of such species are causing severe losses. In this publication 15 such important and very common and prevalent stored product grain insect are explained in brief with their life cycle, effects on grain and their management. Although the majority of the photographs used are original to the authors, some are also taken from the open sources. We appreciate and acknowledge the sources. This publication might help the non-entomologists working in post-harvest storage aspects to know the basic biology, lifecycle and infestation mechanism of the stored product insects. |
