| Abstract/Description: | DEPENDING ON GULLY DIMENSIONS AND OTHER FACTORS , DIFFERENT GULLY CLASSIFICATION HAVE BEEN SUGGESTED IN DIFFERENT STATES OF INDIA AND BY DIFFERENT GOVERNMENT AGENCIES. AN UNIFORM CLASSIFICATION FOR GULLY RECLAMABILITY FOR AGRICULTURE , FORAGE AND FUEL PRODUCTION HAS BEEN SUGGESTED AND A NOTATION IS EVOLVED FOR IDENTIFICATION OF GULLY RECLAMABILITY CLASSES. THE NOTATION CONSIDERS SOIL TEXTURE ( TWELVE TEXTURAL CLASSES) , GULLY BED ( THREE CLASSES) , GULLY DEPTH ( FIVE CLASSES) AND GULLY SIDE SLOPE ( FOUR CLASSES) . SIX GULLY RECLAMABILITY CLASSES HAVE BEEN SUGGESTED ; CLASSES 1,2,3 FOR RECLAMATION FOR AGRICULTURE , CLASSES 4 FOR HORTICULTURE CLASSES 5 AND 6 FOR FORAGE- CUM FUEL PRODUCTION. RECLAMABILITY SUB- CLASSES DEPENDING ON MAINTENANCE HAZARD OF RECLAIMED GULLY LAND , ROOT ZONE LIMITATIONS LIKE SOIL TEXTURE AND PRONENESS TO BACK FLOW FROM NEARBY STREAMS HAVE ALSO BEEN DESCRIBED. |
