Abstract/Description: | IN AN EXPERIMENT CONDUCTED AT DEHRADUN , FOUR N LEVELS (0, 30, 60 AND 90 kg/ha) WERE APPLIED TO PADDY TO STUDY THE DIRECT AND RESIDUAL EFFECT ON WHEAT WITH TWO ADDITIONAL DOSES OF N ( 0 AND 50 kg/ha) FROM THE POOLED DATA OF TWO YEARS , THE ESTIMATED OPTIMUM DOSE OF N FOR PADDY WAS WORKED OUT TO BE 72 kg/ha . NUMBER OF TILLERS AND STRAW/ GRAIN RATIO INCREASED WITH AN INCREASE IN DOSE OF N UPTO 90 kg/ha .RESIDUAL EFFECT OF N WAS NOT OBSERVED . 50 kg/ha PRODUCED SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER YIELD OF WHEAT OVER CONTROL. |
