Development of entrepreneurial characteristics among women

Abstract

Apart from a few exceptions the entrepreneurial scene in India is still at a level of small or medium scale industry. However they have emerged from traditional products to more modern and manufacturing products. In order to accelerate formation of indigenous enterprise imaginative development programs and policies backed up by sound institutional support are needed. A gender sensitive approach needs to be followed and access to finance information; materials and markets need to be provided for women. The present study aims to identify motivating factors and constraints faced by self employed women. It further attempts to study the entrepreneurial characteristics of self employed women and study the impact of training on development of entrepreneur characteristics. A descriptive and experimental design was adopted. Impact of training was assessed by before and after experimental design. A multistaged sampling design was used to select sample for study. Sample of 150 respondents engaged in quilt making were randomly selected from five villages of Gadarpur block of Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttaranchal. A pre-coded interview schedule was used to collect data. Training was provided to all 150 respondents to develop their entrepreneurial characteristics.
