| Abstract/Description: | THE AUTHORS DISCUSS THE ROLE OF LEUCAENA LEUCOCEPHALA ( SUBABUL) AS A MULTIPURPOSE LEGUMINOUS TREE/ SHRUB IN THE CONTEXT OF SUSTAINABLE LAND USE IN LOW INPUT AND MARGINAL SOIL SITUATION. SITE, SOIL, CLIMATIC CONDITIONS AND COMPATIBLE ASSOCIATION WITH THIS MPT ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. BENEFITS AS COULD BE DERIVED FROM ITS JUDICIOUS USE IN INTERCROPPING WITH ANNUAL CROPS, INOCULATION WITH RHIZOBIUM AND NITROGEN FIXATION ARE ALSO INDICATED. WITH FEW LIMITATIONS OF THIS SPECIES , THIS MPT IS VERSATILE AND IS A POTENTIAL SOURCE OF NUTRIENTS . RESEARCH AND MANAGEMENT STRATEGIES HAVE ALSO BEEN SUGGESTED. |
