| Abstract/Description: | THE ARTICLE GIVES AN ACCOUNT OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE BLACK SOILS WHICH ARE SPREAD OVER A LARGE AREA THE PENINSULAR INDIA. IT PRESENTS THE RESULTS OF PRACTICAL IMPORTANCE OBTAINED AT RESEARCH CENTRE , BELLARY KARNATAK STATE WITH REGARD TO VARIOUS SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES INCLUDING MECHANICAL STRUCTURES , WATER HARVESTING TECHNIQUES , CONTOUR CULTIVATION ETC. IT ALSO DEALS WITH, IN DETAIL THE IMPROVED AGRONOMIC PRACTICES CROPS AND HIGH YIELDING VARIETIES OF JOWAR AND SAFFLOWER. THE ALTERNATIVE MEASURES FOR APPROPRIATE LAND USE UNDER DROUGHT CONDITIONS ARE ALSO ELABORATED. |
